The World Through My Words is a growing series of poetry collections that explores disability, friendship, identity, belonging, humour and the people and places that shape our lives.
What began as a handful of poems written after meeting my Gig Buddy, Alan, in January 2025 has become a journey I never expected to take. Through open mic nights, theatre performances and the encouragement of family, friends and fellow writers, poetry has become a way of sharing experiences, challenging perceptions and starting conversations.
Whether the poems make you laugh, reflect, question or simply see the world from a different perspective, I hope they stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page.
The Biennial Beginning
The first collection in The World Through My Words series
Published in July 2026, The Biennial Beginning is my first collection of poetry.
Written across nearly two years of new experiences, friendships and performances, the collection explores life with a disability, the assumptions people make, the places and people that shape us, and the humour that can be found even within moments of frustration.
From childhood memories and growing up in North Wales, to navigating everyday barriers, discovering a passion for performing, and finding confidence through poetry, these poems tell the story of a journey that has only just begun.
The collection includes poems that have been performed at VoiceBox Wrexham and as part of The World Through My Words at Pontio’s Cosi & Scratch festival.
Some poems are deeply personal. Others challenge the way disabled people are spoken to, spoken about or simply overlooked. Throughout the collection, I have tried to be honest without asking for sympathy, and to encourage readers to see familiar experiences from a different perspective.

Abergele Book Launch

From Page to Stage
Many of the poems in The Biennial Beginning have been written to be heard as well as read.
Over the past two years I have had the privilege of performing my work at open mic events across North Wales, including VoiceBox Wrexham, and in July 2026 I presented The World Through My Words as part of Pontio’s Cosi & Scratch festival in Bangor.
Each performance has helped shape both the poems and the confidence behind them, proving that poetry is not just something to read on a page—it is something to experience together.
As The World Through My Words continues to grow, I hope to bring future performances, new collections and new conversations to audiences across Wales and beyond.
About the Author
Mark Amos-Jones is a poet, performer and disability advocate from Abergele, North Wales.
Living with cerebral palsy, nystagmus and a learning disability, he writes with honesty, humour and insight about everyday life, accessibility, identity and belonging. Alongside his writing, he is actively involved in disability advocacy, community volunteering and public speaking, using lived experience to encourage greater understanding and inclusion.
