Wonder
Written for National Poetry Day 2026, inspired by this year’s theme, Wonder began as a few questions.
Questions about being heard. About whether words can break through the noise. About whether speaking up really makes a difference.
I first shared the poem at the All-Wales Open Mic before taking it to the stage at Sheldon’s Open Mic in Colwyn Bay, where the response genuinely floored me.
Sometimes the shortest poems leave the biggest questions behind.
I wonder when my voice will be heard,
Wonder whether the words will break through,
Wonder if this is worth the effort.
Wonder if you’re really aware.
Wonder when the world will wake up
Wonder when the noise will die down
Wonder when war will end.
Wonder what’s the point?
Wonder… wonder
Let my words wonder.
